I've been Priest in Charge of St Peter's Church since November 2012 and am enjoying the challenges of helping to grow the church in a small rural parish.  Although I am not from the North-East I have lived here since 1986 and feel very much at home.

I was ordained quite late in life having spent many years teaching History at Sunderland University and the Open University and practising as a counsellor, first with Relate and then in GP surgeries in the Bishop Auckland area.  I gave up teaching shortly after I was ordained in 2009 but retired from my counselling role at the end of May 2018.  So, until very recently, my parish ministry went hand in hand with my secular employment.

My Christian faith is fundamental to who I am and it shapes all aspects of my life.  I was a churchgoer from infancy but it was not until I was 27 that I discovered how important Jesus was to me.  One day, whilst vacuuming, I heard a voice say that Jesus had died for me.  Suddenly Christ's death became deeply personal and when I responded, 'What can I possibly do in return?' the voice said 'Just love me.'  That was thirty-eight years ago and I am still discovering what it really means to love God and love neighbour as self - the two great commandments.

My Christian journey has been shaped by middle of the road and charismatic evangelical Anglicanism as well as Ignatian spirituality.  I also spent time in a house church and a Baptist church in my thirties and I enjoy drawing upon this rich heritage to bring depth and life to my ministry as well as my own relationship with God.

In recent years I have become involved with New Wine and am one of two New Wine Network Leaders for Durham Diocese and lead a Leaders' Core Group for some fellow clergy in the area.
